Haiti Earthquake
On 12 January 2010 an earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale, struck Haiti, approximately 10 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince. An estimated 3 million people have been affected. Aid agencies are working to provide emergency relief. However, the island's endemic poverty and a lack of infrastructure increase the risk of deaths daily. There are shortages of water, shelter, sanitation and health services. Hospitals in Port-au-Prince are overwhelmed by the disaster.
Prospero recommends supporting Merlin and Rapid UK who are providing emergency services in Haiti. Please contact us if you would like further details of how you can help.
