ASEEMA works with Mumbai's
street children and slum dwellers to provide an excellent and creative early-years
education.

ASEEMA is currently seeking funding to extend their work to a municipal
school in Mumbai's Santa Cruz district, and for the construction of an
education centre which would serve tribal children in Igatpuri, an hour
and a half outside Mumbai

Contact us about supporting ASEEMA
ASEEMA provides an excellent, Montessori-influenced primary and pre-primary
education to some of Mumbai's most underprivileged children. With a sharp
focus on stimulating intellect, building self-esteem, and creativity, ASEEMA
prepares children for entry into the formal education system, and provides
on-going support to prevent students from dropping out. Integrated services
also work to improve the health and emotional stability of these children
so that they’re able to fully benefit from their education.
For ASEEMA, art plays a central role; it inspires the children and, through
the sale of high-quality products based on the children's own artworks,
it funds the charity.
Our assessment:
- Aseema's approach is creative and child-centred, and they provide a
high level of education for little or, in some cases, no cost to the families.
- Using the children's artistic products to support the charity's running
costs generates a significant income which may ultimately lead to self-sufficiency,
and clearly boosts the children's morale and self-esteem.
- As testament to the effectiveness of ASEEMA's approach, the Indian government
have asked them to take over classrooms in Municipal schools where their
own systems are not working.
