Contact us about supporting Clean Break

Clean Break was founded in 1979 by two female prisoners, and has since grown into a critically acclaimed, new-writing theatre company. Today, Clean Break provides women who are marginalised by their experience of the criminal justice system the opportunity to develop personal and professional skills through an educational program of writing, production and theatre skills training.

Our assessment:

  • Clean Break provides women with a safe environment plus the artistic and educational resources they need to deal with their experiences and voice the issues that are most important to them.
  • Through their advocacy work and their engaging public events, Clean Break is successfully challenging prejudice surrounding female offenders.
  • Strong social values underpin the work of this all-woman team.
