Engaged Events organises the
Palestine Festival of Literature (Palfest), promoting cultural exchange
and understanding by taking international writers to the West Bank for a
series of readings and dialogues.
Engaged Events is a new charity which aims to foster creative relationships
between artists and audiences in different locations around the world. Palfest,
its first project has already enabled some of the West's most vocal and
respected literary artists to experience the situation at the heart of the
Arab world, first hand. The result has been the formation of new partnerships
with the UK and most importantly, the bringing of solidarity and inspiration
to Palestinians.

Our assessment:
- Engaged Events' first 2 festivals have shown that bringing work to an
audience under military occupation can be deeply transformative for participants,
both international and Palestinian
- Palfest has already achieved a high media profile and formed impressive
partnerships with arts institutions in the UK.
- The charity's current programme promotes cultural dialogues and social
change - can be expanded to encompass educational and capacity-building
activities in Palestine. As well, The festival format itself can be replicated
in other fractious areas around the world
