Supporting Orphans and Indigent
People of Cambodia for Development Organisation (SOID) supports the education,
health and nutrition of 100 children from chronically poor families in the
slums of Siem Reap, Cambodia.

SOID is seeking funding of $2,000 per month towards their total running
costs. This includes, healthcare, teachers' salaries, food and educational
equipment such as text books, pens and exercise books.

about supporting SOID
SOID
was founded and is still run by a former monk whose aim has been to provide
practical solutions to the enormous challenges faced by Siem Reap's slum
children. The small organisation provides education in both Khmer and English
to these extremely disadvantaged children who would otherwise not attend
school. The standard of education is high and includes English which is
particularly important as the economy is heavily reliant on tourism. SOID
also provides food and healthcare to their students.
Our assessment:
- The small, local charity is run by Cambodians but is also supported
with monitoring, evaluation and fundraising on a voluntary basis, by Andre
Ruys, a Dutch ex-patriot who now lives in Siem Reap with his Cambodian
wife.
- Because the programme is run on a voluntary basis, SOID’s administration
costs are kept to a minimum.
